Six dead, four injured in Kathua fire incident

Kathua, Dec 18 (KINS): At least six people, including two children, died and four others were injured in a tragic fire incident at a residential house in Shiva Nagar, Ward Number 16, Kathua, early this morning.

According to officials, the fire broke out around 2 a.m. in a rental room, reportedly caused by a lamp in the prayer room. The flames spread quickly, and the victims succumbed to suffocation from the smoke, as there were no burn marks on the bodies.

The deceased have been identified as the house owner, Avatar Krishan (81), Ganga Bhagat (17), Danish Bhagat (15), Barkha Raina (25), Takash Raina (3), and Advik Raina (4). They were rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Kathua, but were declared dead on arrival.

Four people sustained injuries in the incident, including Swarna (61), Neetu Devi (40), Arun Kumar, and Kewal Krishan (69). They are currently undergoing treatment at GMC Kathua, where doctors have confirmed their condition as stable.

Dr. Surinder Atri, Principal of GMC Kathua, stated that the incident involved the family of a recently retired Assistant Matron who had been residing in the house. Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was caused by a lit lamp in the prayer room.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
