Home Minister Amit Shah Launches BHARATPOL Portal to strengthen India’s Global Law enforcement collaboration
New Delhi, Jan 07 (KINS): Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah inaugurated the BHARATPOL portal, a state-of-the-art initiative by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Monday.
Designed to enhance India’s partnership with INTERPOL, the portal will enable seamless cooperation with 195 countries, bolstering law enforcement capabilities both within and beyond the nation’s borders.
Speaking at the launch, Shah called it a transformative step for Indian law enforcement. “India is entering a new era in international investigation with BHARATPOL. This portal will enable seamless integration between Indian agencies and INTERPOL, expediting investigations and ensuring fugitives face justice,” he said.
The portal incorporates five core modules—Connect, INTERPOL Notices, References, Broadcast, and Resources—that streamline various aspects of international crime investigation:
Integrates Indian agencies with INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau in New Delhi.Enables swift identification and tracking of criminals globally.
References & Broadcast: Facilitates real-time exchange of investigative requests.Resources: Enhances document sharing and capacity-building efforts.
Shah highlighted the portal’s real-time communication capabilities, allowing immediate coordination among agencies. He emphasized its ability to expedite the issuance of Red Corner Notices and accelerate responses to international and domestic law enforcement needs.
Modernizing International Justice
Shah underscored the challenges posed by criminals fleeing Indian jurisdiction. “For years, fugitives have evaded Indian laws by escaping abroad. With modern systems like BHARATPOL, such criminals will now be brought to justice,” he said.
He also cited legislative reforms under the Modi government, including Trial in Absentia, allowing prosecution of fugitives even in their absence. This provision, coupled with BHARATPOL, is set to revolutionize extradition processes and enhance India’s ability to tackle cross-border crimes such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, arms smuggling, and cybercrime.
State-Level Impact and Grassroots Training
State police forces will gain from real-time access to global information, enabling more effective handling of emerging challenges. Shah urged the CBI, as India’s National Central Bureau for INTERPOL, to lead BHARATPOL’s implementation and ensure grassroots training to maximize its potential.
During the event, Amit Shah awarded police medals to 35 CBI officers for distinguished service and investigative excellence. The event was attended by Union Home Secretary, CBI Director, and other dignitaries.
Vision for the Future
The Home Minister linked the initiative to India’s long-term aspirations under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for “Amrit Kaal.” “As India progresses toward becoming the third-largest economy by 2027 and a global leader by 2047, advanced systems like BHARATPOL are vital to addressing global challenges and securing our progress,” he concluded.(KINS)
