Major Drug racket busted: 8 Kgs of Narcotics recovered, two arrested: SSP Srinagar

Srinagar, Jan 08 (KINS): The Srinagar police has uncovered a major drug trafficking operation, seizing 8 kilograms of Norcotics and arresting two suspected traffickers.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Imtiyaz Hussain shared details of the bust, which occurred during a routine checkpoint at Qamarwari Srinagar.
“A Tata Sumo vehicle (registration number JK05D 1837) was stopped, leading to the discovery of 6 kilograms of Narcotics hidden under the driver’s seat. Further investigation revealed another 2 kilograms of heroin in possession of the two suspects, identified as Anas Ajaz Awan and Zahid Ahmad Sheikh, both from Kupwara’s Tangdar area,” SSP told reporters, as per news gathering agency KINS.
He further said that the substance is believed to have been smuggled from Pakistan as part of a larger cross-border drug network.
“The seized narcotics have an estimated value of over 30 crores in the international market,” he said.
“An FIR (No. 3/2025) under sections 8/21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered,” SSP added.
SSP Srinagar reaffirmed the police’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to help curb drug abuse.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to dismantle the entire drug syndicate.(KINS)
