Despite cross- border terrorism challenges, situation in JK under control: Army Chief ‘5 lakh pilgrims successfully participated in Amarnath Yatra, peaceful conduct of elections highlights positive developments in J&K’

KINS DESK
Srinagar, Jan 13 (KINS): Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi Monday said that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is firmly under control, despite challenges from cross-border terrorism.
News gathering agency KINS reported that during the press conference in National Capital Delhi, the Army Chief highlighted that last year, 60% of the terrorists eliminated in the region were of Pakistani origin, and today, it is believed that over 80% of the remaining terrorist elements in the Valley and Jammu areas are also from Pakistan.
Discussing the situation along the Line of Control (LoC), General Dwivedi confirmed that the ceasefire agreement, effective from February 2021 after a DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) understanding, is holding steady. However, he pointed out that terror infrastructure across the border remains intact, and infiltration attempts, including those from the International Border (IB) sector, continue to occur.
While terrorist activities have increased in North Kashmir and the Doda-Kishtwar belt in recent months, General Dwivedi emphasized that overall violence levels remain under control.
He also noted that more than 5 lakh pilgrims successfully participated in the Amarnath Yatra, and the peaceful conduct of elections further highlights positive developments in the region.
“The shift from terrorism to tourism is gradually taking shape,” General Dwivedi added, underscoring the progress being made despite ongoing security challenges.(KINS)
