Srinagar, Jan 16 (KINS): A unique and inspiring journey was set into motion as DIG Central Kashmir Range (CKR) Rajiv Pande flagged off a cycle rally aimed at promoting a pollution-free India campaign.
The rally, which began today from the iconic Ghanta Ghar Lal Chowk in Srinagar, will travel across the length of India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, covering a distance of 4,048 km.
Speaking to the reporters on the occasion, DIG Pande as per news gathering agency KINS expressed his admiration for the participants, noting that the group, consisting of two retired senior citizens aged over 50, had undertaken this ambitious journey to spread awareness about pollution and the importance of fitness. “These citizens, who are over 50, are setting an example by choosing to cycle across the country. This initiative is both remarkable and commendable,” said Pande.
DIG Pande further emphasized the importance of fitness in combating lifestyle issues among the youth. “When you engage in physical activities, the need for harmful substances like drugs naturally diminishes. This initiative is a call to our youth to embrace a healthier lifestyle,” he added.
The rally’s message aims to encourage the public to reduce their carbon footprint by promoting cycling as an eco-friendly alternative to motorized transport. The participants also emphasized the health benefits of physical activity, linking fitness to the reduction of social issues like drug abuse.
One of the cyclists, a 67-year-old retired individual, shared his passion for cycling and the message of vitality for older generations. “I plan to ride my cycle for 100 years and today, I begin this journey to Kanyakumari. I encourage everyone, especially the youth, to embrace nature and physical activity through cycling,” he said.(KINS)
