Srinagar, Feb 04 (KINS): Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) has detained five individuals in connection with a criminal conspiracy involving the transportation and smuggling of SIM cards to terrorists lodged in various jails. The suspects were detained today for questioning in connection with the ongoing investigation of case FIR No. 06/2023 under sections 153-A, 505, 121, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code, read with sections 13 and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The conspiracy aimed at procuring, transporting, and smuggling SIM cards inside Central Jail premises for use by inmates involved in terrorism and narco-terrorism. Earlier, searches conducted by Police Station CI-K inside the jail revealed that these suspects, working in collusion with some inmates, had successfully smuggled SIM cards into the jail for a range of terror-related activities. The role of Point-of-Sale (PoS) vendors and Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) who issued these SIM cards is also being investigated, and further arrests are expected.
The detained suspects hail from various areas including Dawoodpora Anantnag, Qamarwari Srinagar, Nathpora, Kaloosa Bandipora, and Kursu Padshahibagh, Srinagar.(KINS)
