Jammu, Feb 05 (KINS): Eleven individuals, including two juveniles, have been arrested for the brazen daylight murder of Gataru gang kingpin Sumit Jandyal, who was killed over a long-standing rivalry with another gang in Jammu, police said on Wednesday.
Authorities have also identified the mastermind behind the crime, who orchestrated the killing from outside India, officials added.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Joginder Singh told reporters as per news agency KINS that multiple rounds were fired at Jandyal while he was in an SUV near Jewel Chowk on January 21.
“The attackers abandoned their vehicle and escaped on a snatched scooter,” Singh said, adding that Jandyal was rushed to GMC Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Among those arrested are the main accused, shooters, conspirators, and individuals who harbored the criminals, the SSP said.
“Through human and technical intelligence, as well as CCTV footage analysis, the assailants were identified,” Singh added.
Given the gravity of the crime, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed, which rounded up around 30 suspects and conducted raids across Jammu, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.
Investigations revealed that Jandyal’s murder was linked to an old enmity with gangster Vikas Slathia of Mandi Gharota in Samba. The rivalry escalated following the 2023 murder of Gataru gang member Akshay Kumar by Slathia’s gang in Ramgarh, police said.(KINS)
