Kulgam Police secures 12-year conviction for four in drug trafficking case
Kulgam, Feb 18 (KINS): In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Kulgam Police secured the conviction of four individuals, sentencing them to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1,00,000 each.
The convicted individuals—Mohd Aslam War (Arwani Bijebhara), Mehraj-ud-din Wani (Nowpora, Kharpora), Waqar Ahmad Dar (Padshahi Bagh, Srinagar), and Bilal Ahmad Hanji (Kharpora)—were found guilty under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The verdict was delivered by the Court of the Principal Sessions Judge, Kulgam, on January 23, 2025, followed by sentencing on February 8.
The case, registered under FIR No. 21/2021 at Yaripora Police Station, dates back to April 26, 2021, when the accused were apprehended during a naka check at Kharpora near a playground. The police recovered 100 ml of 36 unlabelled bottles, six labelled bottles of Cocax-DX, and two polythene bags containing 130 grams of charas from their possession.
During the trial, the prosecution presented multiple witnesses and documentary evidence to substantiate the charges. After thorough evaluation, the court found them guilty under Sections 8/20 and 8/22 read with Section 29 of the NDPS Act, leading to their conviction and sentencing.(KINS)
