Elected Govt knows its jurisdiction: Advisor Nasir
Srinagar, Apr 5 (KINS): A day after Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha defended his decision to transfer middle-rung officers in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s advisor, Nasir Aslam Wani, asserted that the elected government is fully aware of its jurisdiction and is operating well within the constitutional framework.
“We also know our jurisdiction,” said Wani, a key aide to the Chief Minister, while addressing reporters in Srinagar. He added that the ruling alliance had clearly stated its position during a meeting held on Friday, warning the Centre against attempts to undermine the authority of the democratically elected government.
“Our stand remains the same. Let’s see what happens in the future,” he remarked.
Wani was responding to LG Sinha’s earlier justification that the transfers were within his powers under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act passed by Parliament. The CM’s advisor countered that the elected government also seeks to function strictly in line with the same Act and the established Business Rules.
“We are not talking outside of that framework,” Wani emphasized.
The standoff between the elected government and Raj Bhavan deepened on April 1, when the LG’s office issued transfer orders for 48 officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services. The move came while the administration was preoccupied with Eid celebrations.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah later wrote to the Union Home Minister, challenging the legality of the transfers and accusing the LG of violating the provisions of the Reorganisation Act.(KINS)
