Srinagar, April 21 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday visited Ramban district to assess the damage caused by recent flash floods and landslides.

Parts of Ramban were severely affected following incessant rains that triggered flash floods and landslides, resulting in large-scale destruction. The calamity has claimed at least three lives, while several houses, shops, and vehicles have been damaged or washed away.

According to official sources, the Chief Minister visited the affected areas to take stock of the situation. “He assessed the situation on the ground personally,” an official told KINS.

On the occasion, he directed officials to ensure the immediate rehabilitation of the victims.
“He instructed the authorities to conduct a thorough assessment and compensate the victims at the earliest,” the official added.

He also directed officials to clear debris from the road and ensure immediate restoration of traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.

The administration has already launched relief and rescue operations in the area, though many parts remain inaccessible due to debris and damaged roads. Authorities are working around the clock to restore connectivity and provide aid to affected families.

Meanwhile, political leaders and civil society groups have urged the government to announce immediate compensation for the victims and to prioritize infrastructure repairs in the region.

Further updates on the visit and relief measures are awaited. (KINS)
