Azka Namkeen: 40-yrs of trust, taste and tradition

Srinagar, April 28:
Azka Namkeen, a homegrown Kashmiri food brand, has completed more than four decades since it first opened its doors in 1981. Founded by Farooq Ahmad Dar in Srinagar, the brand has remained committed to delivering authentic Kashmiri bakery products and pulses to households across the Valley.
What began as a modest setup producing handmade kulchas and traditional daals grew steadily over the years, relying purely on word-of-mouth. “We didn’t have fancy packaging or big advertisements back then. We had trust,” Farooq Ahmad Dar recalled.
Despite the socio-political changes and economic shifts Kashmir has witnessed over the past four decades, Azka Namkeen has held firm, carving a space for itself in local markets. Its bakery items and slow-roasted pulses have become a familiar presence at family gatherings, festive occasions, and regular afternoon tea sessions.

Staying true to its roots, the brand continues to prepare its products using traditional recipes, blending time-honored techniques with modern hygiene practices. Farooq said that the recipes used today are the same ones he started with over forty years ago, ensuring customers experience the same familiar taste with every bite.
Today, Azka Namkeen employs a team of skilled workers from across Kashmir. Many have been part of the company for years, contributing their expertise to maintain quality and uphold traditional production standards. Management credits this loyal workforce for helping Azka preserve its reputation for authenticity.
Over time, Azka Namkeen has adapted to changing consumer habits. Its branding and packaging, inspired by Kashmiri culture, remain understated yet strong, reflecting the brand’s ethos. Rather than chasing trends or aggressive marketing, Farooq said the company focuses on building lasting relationships with its customers.
As it steps into a new decade, Azka Namkeen continues its journey as a trusted name in Kashmiri households — connecting generations through flavors that evoke warmth, memory, and tradition.
