Elderly Woman injured in bear attack in Banihal’s Chanjloo Village

Banihal, April 30 (KINS): A 68-year-old woman sustained injuries in a bear attack in Chanjloo village of Banihal in Ramban district on Wednesday afternoon.

The victim has been identified as Khatija Begum, wife of Ghulam Mohammad Zohda, a resident of Chanjloo. The incident occurred around 3 PM while she was near her house in the Nayak Pora area of the village.

According to reports, a black bear appeared suddenly and mauled the woman before fleeing the scene. Locals rushed to her aid and shifted her to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal. From there, doctors referred her to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for further treatment due to the severity of her injuries.

Following the incident, a team from the Wildlife Department in Banihal was dispatched to the area. A search operation has been launched to trace the bear and drive it back to the forest.

Wildlife officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and immediately report any sightings of wild animals to the nearest Wildlife Office to ensure timely response and public safety.(KINS)
