Focus Currently on Smooth Conduct of Kheer Bhawani Mela and Amarnath Yatra: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, May 20 (KINS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that the immediate priority for the administration is to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the Mela Kheer Bhawani and the annual Amarnath Yatra.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to Ganderbal, Omar as per KINS stated that both the civil administration and security agencies are working in close coordination to make comprehensive arrangements for these major religious events.

“Right now, the focus is to ensure a peaceful and successful Mela Kheer Bhawani and Amarnath Yatra,” Omar said. “Security measures are being strengthened and logistical preparations are in full swing.”

While acknowledging the setback faced by the tourism sector, he said that reviving tourism is a key concern, but not the immediate priority.

“Tourism has suffered, no doubt. But the current situation demands that we first complete the Yatra successfully. Once that is done, the government will engage with stakeholders to devise a roadmap for revival,” he added.

He noted that some tourist groups have already started arriving, signaling hope for a gradual recovery.

“Tour operators from outside are showing interest again. Revival efforts will pick up after the Yatra concludes,” Omar affirmed.

The Mela Kheer Bhawani, dedicated to Goddess Ragnya Devi, holds deep religious significance for the Kashmiri Pandit community, while the Amarnath Yatra is one of the most revered Hindu pilgrimages, drawing thousands of devotees each year.(KINS)
