Kupwara, June 30 (KINS):J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Tariq Hameed Karra on Monday termed Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra a historic initiative and a powerful response to what he called the “Modi Government’s systematic assault on democracy and its institutions”.
According to the JKPCC statement Tariq Kara, while addressing political convention under the ongoing Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq campaign in the border district of Kupwara, reiterated Congress’ unwavering demand for the restoration of Jammu & Kashmir’s statehood, dignity, and honour. He reaffirmed Rahul Gandhi’s commitment to fight for the rights of the people and to restore justice in J&K and across the nation.
“The culmination of Bharat Jodo Yatra in Kashmir was symbolic and significant. Rahul Gandhi walked thousands of miles not for power, but to protect democracy, confront injustice, and give voice to the people suppressed under the BJP’s rule,” Karra said, adding that no other leader has made such a selfless effort in independent India’s political history.
He accused the “Modi Government of using diversionary tactics to hide its failures, stating that the Congress, under the leadership of Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, had held the government accountable at every step. “The BJP’s vendetta politics and suppression of opposition voices stand fully exposed,” Karra said.
Commenting on the situation in the country, he said the government has no clear policy for empowerment or development. “Instead, it is focused on eroding democratic institutions and silencing dissent,” he added.
Touching upon the ongoing Amarnath Yatra, Karra emphasized that the pilgrimage has always been sacred and peacefully supported by the people of Kashmir. He cautioned against politicizing the Yatra to deflect from governance failures. Referring to the Pahalgam incident in which 26 people were killed, he demanded accountability. “Kashmiris have always carried the Yatra on their shoulders. Who will take responsibility for the Pahalgam tragedy?” he questioned.
Senior Congress leader Haji Abdul Rashid Dar stressed the need for more grassroots public outreach to understand people’s problems under the current dual administrative control in J&K, which he said was worsening everyday challenges for citizens.
MLA Adv. Irfan Hafeez Lone hailed the leadership of Tariq Hameed Karra and said that the ongoing campaign would be intensified until full statehood is restored to J&K.
Other senior leaders who addressed the gathering included Nissar Ahmad Mundoo, DCC Kupwara President Javed Ahmad Mir, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Iqbal Mir, Haji Farooq Mir, and several Block Presidents and local Congress leaders.(KINS)
