Srinagar, July 08 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is set to visit West Bengal to participate in a tourism-related event and hold key meetings aimed at promoting tourism in the region, sources told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
According to sources, Omar is scheduled to leave for Kolkata tomorrow. During the visit, he will attend a major tourism event organized in the city and is also expected to meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday.
“The Chief Minister is keen on reviving the tourism industry in Jammu and Kashmir, which has suffered setbacks after Pahalgam terror attack,” sources said.
“In Bengal, he is likely to meet key stakeholders and tourism players to brief them about the ground situation in Jammu and Kashmir and to encourage tourist inflow from the state.”
Officials said that the Chief Minister’s visit is part of a broader outreach plan to dispel apprehensions and promote Jammu and Kashmir as a safe and attractive destination for travelers.
“The idea is to assure tourists and travel operators that Jammu and Kashmir is open, safe, and welcoming,” one official said, adding that Bengal remains a significant market for Kashmir’s tourism sector.
The state government has recently ramped up efforts to boost the tourism economy, with campaigns, roadshows, and partnerships across several Indian states. (KINS)
