Heavy rains in parts of Jammu & South Kashmir till today afternoon, gradual improvement expected thereafter: Meteorological Centre Srinagar

Srinagar, Sept 03 (KINS): The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Wednesday issued a fresh weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of the Union Territory, particularly over districts of Jammu Division and South Kashmir, till late afternoon today.

However as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) the weather department said that a gradual improvement is expected thereafter.

According to the MeT Centre Srinagar, the weather on 3rd September will remain generally cloudy with light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places. Some districts of Jammu Division are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, while South Kashmir may experience moderate to heavy showers.

From 4th to 7th September, the weather office has predicted brief spells of rain and thundershowers at a few places, with moderate showers expected over isolated areas of Jammu Division. A fresh spell of moderate rainfall is also likely between the late night of 8th September and the morning of 9th September, before weather conditions improve and remain relatively stable till the evening of 11th September.

The MeT department has also issued an advisory urging people to remain cautious amid the possibility of: Heavy to very heavy rainfall in some districts.Flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas.

Significant rise in water levels of Jhelum, Tawi, and other local rivers and tributaries, which could trigger flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Authorities have urged residents to stay away from water bodies, river embankments, and loose structures, while travelers on hilly routes have been advised to remain alert.

“People are requested to stay updated and follow weather advisories closely for their safety,” the advisory added.(KINS)
