“If Afghan foreign minister can visit India and cricket can be played, what’s the harm in talking to Pakistan?” says Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary

KINS Desk

Srinagar, Oct 14 (KINS): Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Tuesday said that the ‘real cost of war is always borne by the common people, particularly those living along the borders of Jammu and Kashmir’.

Speaking to reporters in Baramulla, as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), the Deputy CM responding to a query said, “Whenever there has been a war, the people of Jammu and Kashmir — especially those living along the borders — have suffered the most. I come from among them. When bullets are fired, we know what war truly means.”

He said, “What is the harm in talking to Pakistan when foreign leader from Afghanistan can visit India and cricket matches are happening between two countries?”

He criticized those who talk about war from what he said the comfort of television studios, remarking, “It is easy to sit in TV rooms and make big decisions. Let them stand on the border once and see for themselves. Only then will they understand what happens when drones fly above and shells land nearby.”

Recalling the region’s turbulent past, he said, “From 1947 till today, Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed wars, and countless sacrifices. We have always stood tall with our soldiers and kept the Tricolour flying high. We are proud and patriotic people.”

The Deputy CM cautioned against “glorifying” war in the modern era, emphasizing the need for peace and restraint. “This is not the time for war. Today’s warfare is not limited to borders — it involves technology, drones, and cyber threats. Both India and Pakistan must think carefully, because in any fight, it is the ordinary people who suffer the most,” he said. (KINS)
