LoP Sunil Sharma urges LG Manoj Sinha to review MBBS admissions at SMVDIME, cites devotees’ sentiments

JAMMU, Nov 22 (KINS): Leader of the Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan, Jammu, to convey concerns over the recent MBBS admissions at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME), functioning under the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board.

Sharma as per BJP statement expressed strong reservations about the selection process, stating that the admissions have sparked anger among devotees of Mata Vaishno Devi and sections of the Hindu community.
He told the LG that the selection of a large number of non-Hindu students has caused distress among many devotees, adding that the matter carries cultural sensitivities and faith-linked expectations from institutions associated with Mata Vaishno Devi.

The LoP urged a review of the admission criteria, greater transparency, and due consideration of the sentiments of the Hindu community. He stressed the need for an approach that acknowledges the expectations of devotees who place deep trust in Shrine Board–managed institutions.

Sharma was accompanied by BJP MLAs Sham Lal Sharma, Surjeet Singh Salathia, Dr. Devinder Manyal, and R.S. Pathania. The delegation reiterated the BJP’s commitment to protecting cultural and religious sentiments, especially those of Hindu devotees, and requested the LG’s intervention to address public grievances and restore faith in the admission process.

Highlighting the significance of the Shrine Board and its institutions, Sharma noted that these establishments represent the region’s cultural and spiritual identity. Any decision perceived as disregarding devotees’ sentiments, he said, may have wider social and emotional implications.

The delegation urged the Lieutenant Governor to take prompt measures to address the concerns raised by Mata Vaishno Devi’s devotees.(KINS)
