Girl dies after self-immolation attempt in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk

Srinagar, Dec 01 (KINS): A young girl, who had attempted self-immolation at Pratap Park in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk on Saturday, succumbed to her injuries at SMHS Hospital on Monday morning.

According to an official, the girl had allegedly poured an inflammable substance on herself before setting herself ablaze. She was immediately rushed to SMHS Hospital with critical burn injuries, where she remained under treatment for two days.

“Despite the efforts of doctors, she could not be saved and was declared dead this morning,” the official told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).

The incident has sent shockwaves across the area, with many locals expressing concern over the rising trend of extreme self-harm, especially among young people.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated further proceedings to ascertain the circumstances that led to the drastic step. (KINS)
