Anantnag Police step up action against drugs in 2025, 124 NDPS cases registered

Srinagar, Jan 01 (KINS): Anantnag Police carried out a strong anti-drug drive throughout 2025 as part of its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, achieving major results under the NDPS Act.
Police records show that 124 NDPS cases were registered during the year and 149 people involved in drug peddling and trafficking were arrested. Large quantities of drugs were seized in different operations across the district.
The seized items included 7.938 kg of charas, 150 kg of cannabis powder, 37 kg of ganja, 95 kg of fukki, 351 kg of poppy straw, 128 grams of brown sugar, 61 grams of heroin, 903 bottles of intoxicant syrup, and 600 capsules.
To break drug networks, Anantnag Police also took action against their finances and properties. Properties worth ₹3.66 crore were attached, including 14 houses, one shopping complex, three shops, one cowshed, six vehicles and three kanals of land. Police also seized ₹1,18,850 in cash and froze 193 bank accounts involving ₹59 lakh.
In addition, police destroyed wild cannabis growing on 186.88 kanals of land during the year to stop illegal cultivation.
Police officials said the drive was carried out with the help of the public and aimed at creating a drug-free Anantnag. They appealed to citizens to continue cooperating and sharing information to protect youth and society from the dangers of drugs.(KINS)
