Srinagar, Jan 15 (KINS): Indian Army Day was celebrated across Kashmir to mark the historic occasion when General K. M. Cariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army on January 15, 1949, Army said on Thursday.
“The day honours the courage, sacrifice and dedication of Indian Army personnel who safeguard the nation under the motto “Service Before Self”. From high mountains to deserts and difficult borders, the Army continues to protect the country with bravery and commitment.
Army Day events were held at Srinagar, Sharifabad, Uri and Tangdhar. Senior military officers attended wreath-laying ceremonies, and ex-servicemen were felicitated for their valuable service to the nation.
The celebrations highlighted the strong bond between serving soldiers, veterans and citizens. On this occasion, tributes were paid to serving personnel, veterans and their families for their sacrifices and continued support, which remain a source of pride and inspiration for the nation” .(KINS)
