LG Manoj Sinha, CM Omar Abdullah express grief as four killed in Udhampur road accident

Jammu, Jan 27 (KINS): Four people lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Tuesday, officials said.

The accident took place around 11 am near the Jakhani–Chenani area on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway.

Officials said a bus travelling from Doda to Jammu lost control, hit a motorcycle, and then rammed into a load carrier that was parked on the roadside for repairs.

A mechanic and the load carrier driver died on the spot. Two passengers travelling in the bus were thrown out through an emergency window and later succumbed to their injuries while being taken to hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Sanjeev Kumar, a mechanic from Udhampur; Rayes Ahmad of Badgam; and Mukesh Prajapati, a CRPF jawan posted in Kishtwar, who was on his way to his home in Madhya Pradesh on leave.

Another passenger, Bimla Devi, was injured in the accident and has been admitted to Government Medical College Hospital, Udhampur. Her condition is stated to be stable.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. In his condolence message, the Lt Governor said he was deeply pained by the tragic accident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, while praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also conveyed his condolences and prayed for strength to the affected families during this difficult time.Meanwhile, Jammu Police have registered a case. (KINS)
