Post-Budget Press Conference: Despite numerous challenges, J&K Govt has made every possible effort to provide relief to needy, says CM Omar Abdullah

Jammu, Feb 06 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday addressed a post-Budget press conference, highlighting the government’s commitment to public welfare while maintaining financial discipline in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chief Minister said that despite facing several challenges and a weak financial position, the government has made sincere efforts to provide relief to the most needy sections of society. He emphasized that the Budget should not be viewed as a standalone document but as part of a continuous process of governance.
“No Budget is isolated. It is a series of steps taken by the government, where policies are planned and implemented over time,” Omar Abdullah said. He added that the welfare-oriented and people-friendly approach adopted by his government over the past year is now gradually taking shape on the ground.
The Chief Minister said that the present Budget builds upon the foundation laid earlier and reflects the administration’s focus on inclusive development. He noted that special attention has been given to sectors directly linked to public welfare and basic services.
At the same time, Omar Abdullah underlined the importance of financial prudence. He said that as a responsible government, it would be inappropriate to place an excessive burden on the Union Territory’s treasury or take on heavy debt merely to fulfill all election promises at once.
“We cannot risk the financial stability of Jammu and Kashmir by borrowing heavily. Our aim is to balance development with fiscal responsibility,” he remarked.
The Chief Minister reiterated that his government remains committed to gradually fulfilling its promises through careful planning and sustainable policies. He expressed confidence that consistent efforts and prudent management would strengthen the region’s economy and improve the living standards of the people in the coming years.(KINS)
