Saudi Arabia imposes heavy fines for unauthorized Hajj, violators face deportation

Srinagar, Apr 17 (KINS): Saudi Ministry of Interior has announced strict penalties for performing Hajj without an official permit or assisting others in doing so, with fines reaching up to SR100,000 (around ₹24.9 lakh).

The measures, effective from April 18 to mid-June during the peak Hajj season, apply to anyone entering or attempting to enter Mecca and other sacred sites without authorization.

Individuals found performing or attempting Hajj बिना permit will face fines of up to SR20,000 (about ₹4.98 lakh). The same penalty applies to visit visa holders who stay in Mecca during the restricted period from 1 Dhul-Qa’dah to 14 Dhul-Hijjah.

Stricter penalties—up to SR100,000—will be imposed on those facilitating violations, including arranging visas, transporting unauthorized pilgrims, or offering accommodation. Repeat or large-scale violations may attract higher fines.

Authorities also warned that offenders, including visa overstayers entering Mecca illegally, will be deported and barred from re-entry for 10 years. Vehicles used in such activities may be seized on court orders.

The ministry has urged residents and visitors to follow Hajj regulations strictly and report violations, adding that those penalised can seek review within 30 days and appeal before the Administrative Court within 60 days. (KINS)
