Srinagar, Sep 25 (KINS): Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Friday accused the Omar Abdullah-led government of bringing references to Article 370 and the 2000 Autonomy Resolution into the statehood resolution, alleging that the move was aimed at reviving political sentiments and diverting attention from governance-related issues.
Addressing press, Sharma said the BJP was ready to debate the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir but opposed the inclusion of Article 370 and autonomy-related issues in the resolution.
Sharma further stated that the BJP would not allow Article 370 and autonomy to become part of the Assembly debate under the current resolution. He reiterated that all BJP MLAs were prepared for a substantive discussion on the restoration of full statehood.
“The BJP is ready. Every BJP MLA is ready. But statehood must not be entangled with earlier resolutions and issues that have already been rejected,” Sharma said.
The BJP leader also called upon the Congress party to clarify its position on Article 370, the Autonomy Resolution, and the statehood resolution.
The Leader of Opposition maintained that the government should pursue the restoration of statehood with the Union government without including references to Article 370 and autonomy in the Assembly resolution.
Sharma concluded by stating that the BJP would continue its democratic protest until the government clarified the inclusion of the references and the Congress party made its position on the issues clear.(KINS)
