Srinagar, Oct 15 (KINS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated five major development projects in Ladakh worth around 3,350 crore, covering airport infrastructure, strategic roads, power supply, water conservation and heritage preservation.

He said the Centre was prioritising quality education, modern technology and employment opportunities for Ladakhi youth to reduce the need to move outside the region for higher studies.

The projects include a new terminal at Leh airport, the 298-km Nimmu-Padum-Darcha Road, a 9 MW hydroelectric project, a transmission line, India’s first Petroglyph Conservation Park and 40 water bodies across villages.

Prime Minister Modi also highlighted plans for a centre of excellence in Leh, proposed satellite campuses of IIT Jammu and IIM Jammu, improved digital connectivity and the promotion of local products and tourism.

He said development in Ladakh would be pursued alongside environmental protection and better opportunities for local communities. (KINS)
