IGP Kashmir directs Police Stations to adopt SMART and digital beat policing

Srinagar, Oct 17 (KINS): Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Sujit Kumar Singh, on Saturday chaired a conference on SMART Policing and Digital Beat Policing, attended by Range DIGs, District SSPs, Additional SSPs, Zonal SSPs, DySPs and Station House Officers (SHOs) from across Kashmir Zone.
In line with the vision and directions of the Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir, the IGP directed all police stations in Kashmir Zone to integrate SMART Policing and Digital Beat Policing into their routine functioning to improve efficiency, accountability and public service delivery.
During the conference, Singh highlighted the five core principles of SMART Policing: Strict and Sensitive, Modern and Mobile, Alert and Accountable, Reliable and Responsive, and Techno-savvy and Trained. He stressed that these principles must be reflected in the conduct of police personnel, their working culture and their interaction with the public.
Emphasising Digital Beat Policing, the IGP directed all SHOs to ensure its effective implementation in their respective jurisdictions. Beat officers were instructed to conduct regular field visits, maintain meaningful engagement with local residents and ensure that police services reach every section of society.
The initiative focuses on strengthening public outreach, maintaining updated digital beat records, ensuring prompt and transparent service delivery, fixing accountability at the beat level and encouraging community participation.
The IGP underscored that police stations are the primary point of contact between the police and the public and must be accessible, responsive and equipped with modern technology. He directed supervisory officers to personally monitor the implementation of the initiative and ensure tangible results on the ground.
“Our objective is to make every Police Station in Kashmir Zone SMART and citizen-centric, where technology strengthens accountability and police services reach every citizen with dignity,” Singh said.
All district police heads were directed to ensure effective implementation of the initiative, with particular emphasis on technology-driven services, community engagement and accountability.
Kashmir Zone Police reiterated its commitment to building a modern, responsive and citizen-friendly policing system.(KINS)
