SMC Commissioner reviews winter preparedness, directs officers to ensure smooth civic services

Srinagar, Oct 19 (KINS): Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Dr. Basharat Qayoom on Monday reviewed the Corporation’s winter preparedness, focusing on snow clearance, dewatering operations and uninterrupted delivery of essential civic services.
The review meeting was held at the SMC Central Office in Karan Nagar and was attended by senior officers, including Joint Commissioners, the Superintending Engineer of the City Drainage Circle and other officials.
During the meeting, Dr. Qayoom reviewed the deployment plan for manpower and machinery across municipal wards and directed officers to prioritise key routes connecting hospitals, ration depots, shrines and government institutions to ensure accessibility during snowfall.
He also assessed the availability of snow clearance machinery, dewatering systems and other resources required to respond to winter-related challenges.
Emphasising prompt public service, the Commissioner directed the Snow Monitoring Committee and the 24×7 Control Room to remain fully operational and ensure timely action on complaints related to snow accumulation, blocked roads and other disruptions.
He further instructed officers to keep permanent dewatering stations functional and deploy high-capacity mobile pumps in vulnerable and low-lying areas to prevent waterlogging during rainfall and snowmelt.
Dr. Qayoom stressed the importance of advance planning, field-level monitoring and coordination among departments, directing all concerned officers to ensure adequate preparedness in every municipal ward.
The Corporation aims to ensure safer movement, access to essential services and minimal inconvenience to residents throughout the winter season.(KINS)
