Srinagar, Oct 22 (KINS): BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa on Thursday demanded an increase in the monthly stipend of MBBS interns in Jammu and Kashmir to 50,000, arguing that their demanding duties and round-the-clock services warrant better financial support.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), Randhawa said the existing stipend of 25,000 was inadequate and described the interns’ demand for higher remuneration as justified.
“The demands of the interns are genuine. We have also told the government that the stipend should be at least 50,000,” he said.
The BJP MLA also criticised the National Conference-led government over its handling of public issues, including electricity supply and other commitments made to the people.
He said the absence of statehood should not be cited as a reason for failing to address issues that fall within the government’s powers.
Referring to the political situation, Randhawa commented on MP Aga Syed Ruhullah’s reported announcement regarding his resignation on November 3, saying the date would be significant in determining whether he acted on his stated commitment.
Randhawa further accused the government of giving insufficient attention to public grievances and called for a greater focus on governance and fulfilling its commitments to the people. (KINS)
