Srinagar Court Grants 20-Day Interim Bail to Cop in Bribery Case

Srinagar, Jun 08: A special anti-corruption court in Srinagar granted interim bail on Saturday to a police officer involved in a bribery case.

The court, after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense, decided to grant the officer 20 days of interim bail.

In May, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) trapped and arrested Station House Officer (SHO) of Pantha Chowk police station, Azim Iqbal Khan, and his accomplice, Mushtaq Ahmad Abassi, for demanding a bribe of Rs 8 lakh.

According to the prosecution, the ACB received a written complaint alleging that Khan, through his associate Mushtaq Ahmad, was demanding Rs 8 lakh as a bribe for issuing a report in an accident case. During the investigation, an ACB trap team apprehended the SHO and his accomplice red-handed while they were demanding and accepting the bribe from the complainant.
