J&K Police Honors 5 Rajouri Border Residents for Thwarting Cross-LoC Drug Smuggling Operation

Srinagar, June 14 (KINS): The Jammu and Kashmir Police has rewarded five residents from the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district for their remarkable bravery and patriotic spirit in preventing a major cross-border narcotics smuggling attempt. This operation led to the recovery of a significant heroin consignment in April of this year.
In an official statement, the police headquarters of Jammu and Kashmir announced a reward of INR 4 lakhs for the five individuals (names withheld) who played a crucial role in this operation.
The smuggling attempt was thwarted in the village of Makdi, located ahead of the Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS), commonly known as the LoC fence. Initially, 8.5 kg of heroin was recovered, with an additional 1.44 kg found later, totaling 9.94 kg. The case was registered under FIR No. 36 of 2024 under sections 8/21/23 of the NDPS Act at Nowshera Police Station, Rajouri district.
The police have also busted a major cross-border smuggling racket following the swift intelligence shared by these residents. Four smugglers have been arrested and interrogated so far, with ongoing efforts to uncover more connections, both transnational and domestic.
Reaffirming their commitment to combating transnational crimes, especially narcotics and narco-terrorism, the J&K Police emphasized the importance of active public participation in these efforts.
