Srinagar, July 15: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a critical meeting to discuss strategies for reducing travel time on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway (NH-44) for fruit-laden trucks. The objective was to ensure the smooth movement of these vehicles and minimize losses for fruit growers due to delays.
During the meeting, several key decisions were made to improve traffic flow and manage congestion on this crucial route:
Special Identification and Priority Access: Fruit-laden trucks will be marked with special stickers to ensure they are easily identifiable and given priority access.
Enhanced Enforcement: Increased enforcement will be implemented on critical road stretches to ensure smooth passage for these vehicles.
Optimizing Alternate Routes: The use of alternate routes, such as the Mughal Road and Jawahar Tunnel, will be optimized to alleviate congestion on NH-44.
Diversion of Oil Tankers and Empty Trucks: Oil tankers and empty trucks will be directed towards the Mughal Road to free up space on NH-44 for fruit-laden trucks.
-Utilizing Lean Windows: Heavy vehicles will be scheduled to travel during lean traffic windows to reduce congestion.
Road Improvements: The road surface will be improved, and potholes will be blacktopped to ensure a smoother journey for trucks.
