Cyber Police Handwara cracks down on online scams, recovers & Freezes ₹1.27 Lakh in fraudulent cases

Srinagar, Aug 21 (KINS): The Cyber Unit of Handwara Police has successfully cracked down on two separate online scams, recovering and freezing a total of ₹1.27 lakh. This achievement underscores the police’s continued efforts to combat financial fraud in the region, especially as online scams become increasingly sophisticated.
In both cases, victims were lured into scams through fraudulent web links that promised hefty returns on their investments. Initially, the scam entailed small tasks that offered quick, modest returns to gain the victims’ trust. However, once the victims became comfortable, they were pressured to invest larger amounts, resulting in significant financial losses.
Thanks to the prompt response and analytical efforts of the Cyber Unit Handwara, ₹11,000 was recovered, and an additional ₹1.16 lakh has been frozen, preventing further losses to the victims.
J&K Police have once again issued a stern warning to the public, urging citizens to exercise caution and remain vigilant against such fraudulent schemes. “No legitimate investment scheme promises quick and substantial returns,” police officials emphasized. They further advised the public to refrain from falling for such deceptive offers and to make informed, cautious investment decisions.
This recent success highlights the crucial role of cybersecurity in protecting citizens from the rising tide of digital fraud, while also reinforcing the importance of public awareness in safeguarding personal finances.(KINS)
