Police bust major interstate drug Racket in Anantnag, three arrested

Srinagar, Oct 12 (KINS): In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Anantnag have dismantled an interstate drug racket, arresting three individuals involved in the illicit trade. The operation, carried out on October 12, is part of an intensified effort to curb the smuggling of narcotics into Jammu and Kashmir.
Acting on credible intelligence about a consignment of drugs being transported from Delhi to Srinagar, police set up multiple checkpoints along the suspected route. At Doonipora Bijbehara, a Toyota car was intercepted, carrying three individuals. The accused have been identified as Monty Singh, a resident of Bulandshahar, Uttar Pradesh, and Ashish Bhardwaj and Rahul, both residents of Chhatarpur, New Delhi.
During the vehicle search, authorities discovered 413 bottles of Codeine Phosphate (NRX), branded as Codril-T, concealed within the car’s door panels. The trio was immediately arrested and shifted to Police Station Bijbehara, where they remain in custody for further interrogation.
Initial investigations revealed that the narcotics were intended for delivery in Sopore and Srinagar. In a swift follow-up, the police conducted multiple raids, leading to the detention of a local smuggler from Sopore for questioning. The coordinated effort with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in New Delhi also led to a raid at a warehouse in Noida’s Sector 135, where a substantial quantity of Codeine was seized.
The police have identified the key figures behind the drug racket as Sachin Rana and Arun Rana, both residents of Faridabad, and efforts to apprehend them are currently underway. This operation has exposed both the supply and distribution networks of the drug trafficking ring, with more arrests expected as the investigation continues.
This successful operation is seen as a significant breakthrough in disrupting the illegal drug trade that has increasingly targeted Jammu and Kashmir.(KINS)
