KINS DESK
Srinagar, Oct 23 (KINS): A major fire broke out late last night in the Barahmdaar Batpora area of Haihama, located in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, reducing several residential homes to ashes.
According to local reports, the fire is believed to have started in a shop before spreading rapidly to nearby homes in the locality.
Eyewitnesses described the flames engulfing houses within minutes, creating a scene of panic and chaos as residents scrambled to evacuate their homes.
The fire, fueled by the wooden structures, raged uncontrollably until four firefighting units arrived at the scene.
News agency KINS reported that firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent further damage, ultimately saving the area from further damage.
However, despite their swift action, locals confirmed that at least eight houses were completely destroyed.
The Kupwara police, led by SHO Kupwara, and personnel from the local Army unit were also quick to respond, assisting in the evacuation efforts and providing aid to the affected families.
Their presence on the ground helped coordinate efforts to prevent any loss of life, though the damage to property is significant. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported.
The district administration has stepped in, assuring immediate relief for the victims.
Authorities were in process to provide essential supplies to the families.
Meanwhile, an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the fire, with preliminary reports pointing to a possible electrical fault in the shop where the fire originated.
People have expressed their concern over the frequency of such incidents and called for improved fire safety measures, and awareness programs to prevent future tragedies.(KINS)
