Jammu and Kashmir Police constable arrested with heroin and cash

Jammu, Nov 13: Jammu Police have apprehended a Jammu and Kashmir Police constable at the Government Medical College and Hospital in Jammu for possessing heroin and cash.

Identified as Mohammad Mukhtiyar, a selection-grade constable from Geloti, Udhampur, and currently residing in the Beli Charana area of Jammu, the officer was arrested based on credible intelligence. Police reported that Mukhtiyar was allegedly selling narcotics within the premises of the Government Medical College, prompting an immediate search operation by the police and an executive magistrate. The search resulted in the seizure of 15 grams of heroin and Rs. 9000 in cash.

Mukhtiyar, who serves in the 12th Battalion of the Armed Police in Zewan, Srinagar, has been suspended following his arrest. Police investigations revealed that he was part of an active drug syndicate targeting young residents in Jammu, leading to multiple cases of overdose in the area.

This arrest marks the third FIR registered in a week as part of Jammu Police’s “Zero Tolerance” policy against drug peddling. Just days earlier, on November 6, another constable was detained in the Janipur area, along with his two wives, for possessing 33 grams of heroin.
