Police arrests 08 drug peddlers; Contraband substance recovered

Srinagar, Dec 11 (KINS):In its ongoing efforts to combat drug-related issues in the region, the police have arrested eight drug peddlers across various districts of the Kashmir Valley and recovered substantial quantities of contraband and psychotropic substances from their possession.
A police team from Police Station Pattan, led by the SHO, intercepted a vehicle (Ertiga) near the Railway Crossing in Pattan. The vehicle, bearing registration number JK05M-8404, had three individuals on board. They were identified as Jhon Mohd Mir, son of Gh Mohd Mir, and Mohd Yaqoob Mir, son of Late Ab Aziz, both residents of Nillah Palpora, along with Faisal Ahmad Hajam, son of Gh Qadir, a resident of Pushwari Anantnag. During the search, 78 grams of contraband charas in powder form was recovered. The vehicle used in the crime has also been seized.
In another operation, a police party from Police Station Baramulla, led by the DySP Hqrs Baramulla, intercepted a suspicious individual at a checkpoint near Cement Bridge in Baramulla. The person, identified as Ikhlas Noor, son of Noor Din Khan from Baghi Rehmat Sopore, was found in possession of 40 strips of banned tablets.
Meanwhile, at a routine naka checking near the Higher Secondary School in Kalaroos, a police team from Police Post Kalaroos apprehended Javid Ahmed Lone, son of Abdul Khaliq Lone, a resident of Lashtiyal Kalaroos. During the search, 4 grams of a brown sugar-like substance were recovered from his possession.
In another significant action, Police Station Awantipora, acting on reliable information, raided a residential house in Larkipora. Led by the SHO of Awantipora, along with the Tehsildar and under the supervision of the SDPO Awantipora, the raid resulted in the recovery of 20.5 kilograms of charas-like substance from the house of Fareeda Akhter, a resident of Larkipora.
In Pulwama, a police party from Police Station Litter intercepted two suspicious persons at a checkpoint near Arihal Crossing. During the search, around 82 grams of a brown sugar-like substance was found. The individuals were identified as Nisar Ahmad Rather, son of Gulzar Ahmad Rather from Kanjipora Lajoora, and Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Qadir Bhat from Malangpora Pulwama.
All the accused have been arrested, and cases have been registered under the relevant sections of the law at their respective police stations. Investigations are ongoing.
The police urge the public to report any instances of drug peddling or criminal activity to the nearest police establishment or by calling 112. Cooperation from the community is essential in eliminating the menace of drugs, and the police are committed to taking strict legal action against those involved in such crimes.(KINS)
