Srinagar, Jan 03 (KINS): Sheikh Zainab Iqbal, a 12-year-old student of KC International School, Paloura, Jammu, has emerged as a rising star in sports, securing accolades in both shooting and skiing at a young age, inspiring her peers along the way.
In the 13th Jammu District Shooting Championship 2024, Zainab clinched a silver medal in the Sub Youth Air Rifle Women category. She went on to claim gold in the same category during the 13th J&K UT Shooting Championship 2024. Her exceptional performance in the J&K UT shooting competition, organized by the District Youth Services and Sports, earned her a spot in the SGFI National competition.
Zainab also showcased her skills at the CBZE Zonal Shooting Competition held in Gobindgarh, Punjab, and participated in the 43rd North Zone Shooting Championship in New Delhi, qualifying for the 67th National Shooting Championship.
Beyond shooting, Zainab’s skiing achievements have set her apart. At just three years old, she became the youngest Indian skier to qualify for the National Advanced Course. She further impressed by scoring 70% in tests conducted by the Indian Institute of Mountaineering and Skiing.
Recalling her early days, one of her trainers said, “When her parents brought her to train, she was just a toddler holding a milk bottle. I was astonished by her determination and talent. Her ability to pick up skills so quickly was remarkable.”
Zainab’s dedication and achievements have made her a role model for young athletes, showcasing that age is no barrier to excellence in sports. (KINS)
