Er Aijaz Hussain Resolves Long-Pending Traditional Mining Issue in River Jhelum

Srinagar, Feb 01 (KINS): Er Aijaz Hussain, DDC Lalchowk and Senior BJP Leader, successfully inaugurated the long-awaited resumption of traditional sand mining in the River Jhelum, addressing an issue that had impacted hundreds of local miners since 2019.
Despite receiving prior approval, traditional mining operations were halted in 2019, affecting the livelihoods of many. Through persistent efforts, Er Aijaz Hussain facilitated the identification of six key mining spots along the river, providing a vital lifeline to the local community. The initiative ensures sustainable mining practices while benefiting hundreds involved in the trade.
To mark the occasion, Er Aijaz Hussain personally flagged off the first vehicle carrying sand from Padshahibagh, symbolizing the official reopening of mining operations. Local residents expressed deep gratitude for his dedication in resolving this long-standing issue.
Er Aijaz Hussain also extended his heartfelt thanks to Honourable Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha Ji, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr. Bilal Mohiuddin, the Chief Engineer of Irrigation and Flood Control, the Director of the Geology and Mining Department, the DMO Srinagar, and all concerned departments for their unwavering support in addressing the challenges faced by the local mining community. His appreciation underscored the administration’s collective commitment to making this initiative a reality.
During his address, Er Aijaz Hussain emphasized the need for environmentally sustainable extraction methods, recognizing the economic and cultural significance of traditional mining in Srinagar. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that benefit local communities while ensuring ecological responsibility.
“This initiative has been long overdue, and I’m proud to have played a role in reviving our traditional mining practices in a way that supports both our people and the environment,” said Er Aijaz Hussain.
The reopening of sand mining operations is expected to provide a much-needed economic boost to the region, ensuring a steady supply of raw materials for local construction projects. Er Aijaz Hussain was accompanied by Shri Umer Shafi, Constituency President Lalchowk, during the visit.(KINS)
