Jammu’s Sunjwan Green Valley Residents without tap water for 20 days

Jammu, Feb 10 (KINS): Residents of Sunjwan Green Valley in Jammu are grappling with a severe water crisis, having been without ‘tap water for the past 20 days’.
“For the last 20 days, we’ve been completely deprived of water supply,” Naseer Ahmad, a local resident said.
Despite the Jal Shakti department’s established water distribution schedule, residents claim their area is consistently overlooked. “Other areas receive water on alternate days, but we’re left high and dry for weeks,” Ahmad added.
The crisis has forced many families to rely on private water tankers, which come at a steep cost, disproportionately affecting lower-income households. “The cost of water tankers is unbearable for poor families,” lamented Shabir Ahmad, another resident. “It feels like someone is exploiting our misery.”
The Jal Shakti department recently introduced a subsidized paid water supply. However, residents report significant issues with the online booking system. “The idea was good, but the online payment process is a nightmare,” said Imran Ahmad. “Payment failures are common, and JK Bank isn’t even linked to the system. If this isn’t fixed, the scheme is useless.”
Previous efforts to resolve the crisis have provided only temporary relief. After lodging complaints with the Chief Minister’s office, residents received water for a few days, but the supply quickly dried up again. “They gave us water for a few days to quiet us down, but nothing has changed,” said Fatima Bano, another affected resident.
Attempts to reach Jal Shakti department officials for comment were unsuccessful.
The residents’ frustration continues to mount as they await meaningful action. “We’ve waited long enough. Water is a basic necessity, not a luxury,” said Bilal Hussain. The community remains hopeful that the Chief Minister and Jal Shakti Minister will lead to a permanent solution to their water woes.(KINS)
