Sat Sharma flags urgent safety concerns in Rajya Sabha over crumbling Poonch–Budha Amarnath road

Srinagar, Dec 05 (KINS): Rajya Sabha MP and J&K BJP President Sat Sharma (CA) raised a pressing public safety issue in the Upper House on Friday, drawing national attention to the deteriorated Poonch–Budha Amarnath Shrine Road in Jammu & Kashmir.

He as per news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) urged the government to take immediate corrective action to protect thousands of pilgrims, students, patients, and commuters who rely on the route daily.

Speaking under Special Mention, Sharma said the road functions as a lifeline for the region, connecting district headquarters with the revered Budha Amarnath Shrine and serving several villages.

He warned that the current condition of the road—marked by large potholes, waterlogging, and stretches of severe damage—has already led to repeated accidents and delayed emergency responses.

Sharma expressed disappointment that despite multiple allocations for repairs, the road continues to suffer from poor-quality work, inadequate oversight, and delayed execution. He said the persistent neglect has eroded public trust and adversely affected the region’s religious tourism potential.

Calling the situation “deeply distressing and unacceptable,” Sharma urged the Centre to immediately direct the concerned ministries to begin urgent restoration work and devise a comprehensive long-term plan for an all-weather road. He also demanded strict accountability for contractors and officials responsible for lapses.

He stressed that the people of Poonch want safe and reliable infrastructure that respects their daily needs and religious sentiments. Ensuring proper connectivity to Budha Amarnath, he said, is essential not only for public welfare but for enhancing tourism and economic development.

Sat Sharma’s intervention underscores his continued commitment to raising critical public issues and ensuring swift governmental action for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.(KINS)
