IGP Kashmir VK Birdi reviews under-trial case monitoring, calls for stronger investigations across Kashmir zone

Srinagar, Dec 05 (KINS): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V. K. Birdi (IPS), on Friday chaired a high-level review meeting at PCR Kashmir to assess the ongoing monitoring of under-trial cases across the Kashmir Zone. The meeting was attended by Range DIGs, District SSPs, Law Officers, Public Prosecutors and Pairvi Officers.

Opening the session, the IGP outlined the agenda and stressed the importance of strengthening follow-up mechanisms in ongoing cases. District SSPs presented brief reports on the progress of case disposal, with a special emphasis on achieving timely convictions in under-trial and under-investigation cases.

The meeting reviewed key crime-related areas, including NDPS cases, UAPA cases, absconders, preventive actions, and pending inquest proceedings. Officials discussed strategies to reduce delays and improve coordination between investigating officers, prosecutors and district teams.

IGP Birdi appreciated the efforts of district heads and legal teams in crime prevention but urged them to further enhance the quality of investigations. He highlighted the need for wider use of scientific tools, forensic support, digital evidence, and stronger follow-ups—especially for narcotics and terror-related cases where conviction rates must improve.

He also reviewed the broader security situation in the Kashmir Zone and stressed the importance of non-kinetic measures, including strengthening the security grid, establishing dynamic naka points, and maintaining continuous surveillance on anti-national elements.

Concluding the meeting, the IGP reaffirmed the J&K Police’s commitment to ensuring public safety and maintaining law and order. He urged officers to uphold transparency, accountability and ensure timely disposal of cases to secure justice and protect the rights and safety of citizens.(KINS)
