Srinagar, March 1 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Saturday chaired a high-level meeting in Srinagar to review the arrangements for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, senior police officers, top administrative officials, heads of various departments, and Deputy Commissioners (DCs) from across the region.
During the meeting, sources told news agency KINS that Omar Abdullah directed officials to ensure that all necessary arrangements, including uninterrupted electricity and water supply, are put in place for the smooth observance of Ramadan. He stated the importance of providing essential commodities at controlled prices, maintaining law and order, and ensuring hassle-free public transport, especially during sehri and iftar hours.
The Chief Minister stressed that power curtailment should be minimized, particularly during prayer times, and that water supply should be available round the clock. He instructed the Power Development Department (PDD) and Public Health Engineering (PHE) officials to coordinate efforts to prevent any disruptions.
Furthermore, he called upon the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department to ensure the availability of essential commodities such as rice, flour, sugar, and cooking gas. He directed that adequate stock be maintained in markets and ration depots, especially in far-flung areas, so that people do not face shortages.
In addition, the Chief Minister asked municipal and health officials to keep markets, mosques, and public places clean and hygienic. He also directed traffic and law enforcement agencies to regulate traffic movement and enhance security measures, ensuring a peaceful environment during the holy month.
Omar Abdullah urged officials to work in close coordination and address any grievances of the public on priority. (KINS)
