Two dead, three Injured in road accident Near Nowyug Tunnel on Jammu-Srinagar Highway

Jammu, Apr 2 (KINS): Two people succumbed to their injuries after a road accident near the Nowyug Tunnel on the Jammu-Srinagar highway, officials said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 8:40 pm on Tuesday when a Hector vehicle traveling from Jammu to Srinagar lost control due to overspeeding and crashed into a divider and a police barrier. Five people, including a Special Police Officer (SPO), sustained injuries in the crash.

The injured were initially taken to Emergency Hospital Qazigund for treatment before being shifted to Government Medical College Anantnag for further care.

“One of the injured, Zubair Ahmad Wani of Heerpora Shopian, was declared dead on arrival, while another victim, Mushtaq Ahmad Dalal of Shopian, succumbed to his injuries later that night,” officials confirmed.

Police have registered a case under sections 281, 125(a), and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Qazigund Kulgam, and an investigation is underway.

This accident comes just six days after another crash inside the Nowyug Tunnel, where an SRTC bus overturned, leaving 17 people, including the driver, injured.(KINS)
