Tanvir Sadiq urges J&K Speaker to consider Resolution against Waqf Amendment Bill
Srinagar, Apr 3 (KINS): JKNC Chief Spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, has formally written to the Speaker of the J&K Assembly, requesting that his Private Member Resolution against the Waqf Amendment Bill be taken up for discussion on April 7.
In his letter, which has also been shared with all MLAs, Sadiq warned that the recently passed bill in Parliament threatens the autonomy of Waqf boards and religious institutions in Muslim-majority Jammu and Kashmir.
Expressing concerns over increased government control, arbitrary reclassification of Waqf properties, and dilution of board authority, he asserted that the amendments infringe upon constitutional rights and religious autonomy. “This House has a duty to reflect the concerns of the people. Failing to oppose this legislation would mean accepting an erosion of our religious and constitutional rights,” he wrote.
Sadiq has urged the Speaker to prioritize his resolution for debate, ensuring a thorough discussion before any formal adoption. He has also appealed to MLAs across party lines to unite in opposing the amendments.(KINS)
