Omar Abdullah: NC had decided Aga Mehmood’s candidature from day one

KINS Correspondent

Srinagar, Oct 20 (KINS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that the National Conference had decided to field Aga Mehmood from the Budgam constituency from the very beginning but delayed the announcement as part of a political strategy.

“On day one, we had decided to field Aga Mehmood. However, we waited for others to announce their candidates. It was part of our strategy to make our announcement later,” Omar told reporters while accompanying Aga Mehmood to file his nomination papers.

He said the National Conference was fully supporting Aga Mehmood in the upcoming elections.

When asked whether MP Aga Ruhullah would support Aga Mehmood, Omar according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) said, “Aga Sahab has already said that he considers him like his son, and we expect Aga Ruhullah to support him.”

The Chief Minister recalled that he had contested from two constituencies in the last elections. “I vacated the Budgam seat, but we never abandoned it. My ministers and I carried out various developmental works in Budgam, and we hope the people will support our candidate based on that record,” he added. (KINS)
