GMC Baramulla witnesses major improvement in patient care, says Principal

Arshid Farooq
Baramulla, June 13 (KINS): Principal Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla, Dr Majid Jahangir, on Saturday said that patient care at the hospital has seen significant improvement over the past few months, even as efforts continue to address infrastructure and manpower gaps.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS), Dr Jahangir said the medical college, established seven years ago, initially faced several challenges including inadequate infrastructure and gaps in patient care services.
“We had a lot of issues including infrastructure deficit and patient care. Now things are improving. The quality of X-ray services has improved. The government has already approved a Cath Lab and MRI facility, and we hope they will start functioning within a few months,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor, Chief Minister, Health Minister, and the Commissioner Secretary for approving the new healthcare facilities, stating that these additions would significantly enhance diagnostic and treatment capabilities at GMC Baramulla.
Dr Jahangir also said that hospital authorities have been conducting evening rounds across all departments to ensure staff attendance and improve patient care delivery.
However, he acknowledged that the institution continues to face a shortage of staff, which remains a key challenge in providing optimal healthcare services.
Appealing for public cooperation, the Principal urged attendants of patients to support hospital management in maintaining discipline and hygiene.
“Some patients have too many attendants, which impacts patient care. Attendants should also ensure cleanliness in the hospital and avoid the use of polythene,” he said.
He further appealed to the public to report any grievances to hospital authorities so that timely corrective measures can be taken. (KINS)
