Srinagar, April 28 (KINS): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the security situation and preparedness following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead, including 25 tourists and one local resident.
The meeting comes a day after Singh held discussions with the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) to review key military decisions aimed at countering Pakistan’s recent provocations.
In the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, Pakistani troops initiated “unprovoked” ceasefire violations across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, escalating tensions further. This marks the fourth consecutive ceasefire violation by Pakistan in recent days.
“During the night of April 27-28, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts,” the Indian Army said in a statement, adding that Indian forces responded “swiftly and effectively.”
The brutal attack at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam on April 22 is being regarded as one of the worst terror incidents in the Kashmir Valley since the abrogation of Article 370.
Sources indicate that the Centre is closely monitoring the situation and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism, with possible strong retaliatory measures under active consideration.(KINS)
