Srinagar, Oct 08 (KINS): The BJP on Wednesday clarified that it never intended to join the National Conference (NC) government after last year’s Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference, BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma as per news agency KINS said the party is content with sitting in the opposition and that its doors remain closed to the NC.
Sharma was responding to Omar Abdullah’s recent claim that he had the option to ally with the BJP but chose not to, suggesting it could have expedited the restoration of statehood.
“I do not know what dream he had when the BJP offered to form the government together. If any BJP leader offered this, he should bring it forward, or stop spreading lies,” Sharma said.
“The BJP has no need to form the government with him. Either clarify the facts or apologise to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
Sharma accused Abdullah of habitually misleading the public and trying to create an anti-BJP and anti-Centre narrative ahead of the Budgam bypolls.
“Abdullah meets Union ministers in Delhi, presents shawls and bouquets, but in Kashmir, he opposes BJP-led governance. He is trying to drum up hatred for political gains,” Sharma alleged.
On statehood, Sharma said people want peace and not a restoration that brings violence or disruption. He also criticised Abdullah for frequent claims of having no powers, asserting that the Lieutenant Governor has already approved 97 files sent by the chief minister.
Sharma concluded by appreciating the Centre for releasing 171 crore under PM-KISAN in advance, benefiting around 8.55 lakh farmers of Jammu and Kashmir.(KINS)
