Amit Shah to review National preparedness for floods, heatwaves on May 10

Srinagar, May 08 (KINS): Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level meeting in New Delhi on May 10 to review the country’s preparedness for floods and heatwave conditions.

The meeting will assess the readiness of Central agencies, early warning systems, resource deployment and coordination among departments to minimise loss of life and property during natural disasters.

Officials said the review reflects the Centre’s focus on proactive and citizen-centric disaster management under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Home Minister will also review long-term flood mitigation measures, including river management projects, protection of critical infrastructure and improvements in forecasting systems. Progress on decisions taken during last year’s review meeting will also be examined.

Key issues to be discussed include strengthening flood forecasting through advanced technology, preparedness for simultaneous disasters like floods and heatwaves, community awareness programmes and ensuring adequate stocks of relief and medical supplies.(KINS)
